QUANTUM INDUSTRY CANADA ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF THREE ALBERTA-BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO THE NATIONAL CONSORTIUM

NEW ADDITIONS INCLUDE ALBERTA CREATE CENTRE, QUANTUM SILICON & QUBO CONSULTING, SHOWCASING THE BREADTH OF ALBERTA’S QUANTUM CAPABILITIES

May 14, 2024Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the national consortium dedicated to advancing Canada’s quantum technology sector, is pleased to announce the expansion of its network once again with the addition of three organizations from Alberta’s growing quantum ecosystem.

In recent years, Alberta has made strategic investments in talent development, infrastructure, and business development to foster growth in the quantum technology sector. These efforts aim to support quantum innovators in developing products and solutions to address global challenges.

The Alberta CREATE Centre, Quantum Silicon Inc., and Qubo Consulting Corp. join QIC as an affiliate and members, respectively. These additions highlight Alberta and Canada’s extensive capabilities across the quantum value chain, from talent development to specialized fabrication, characterization, and building of quantum solutions.

More about QIC’s newest additions:

  • Alberta CREATE Centre is based in Edmonton and provides open-access resource facilities ranging from nano technology, engineering makerspace, and cloud infrastructure via the nanoFAB, the Elko Garage, and ISAIC.
  • Quantum Silicon Inc. (QSi) is an Edmonton-headquartered company working to develop devices that harness proprietary single-atom silicon quantum dots to create high-speed quantum-enabled accelerators that are orders of magnitude faster and more energy efficient than their transistor-based equivalents.
  • Qubo Consulting Corp. is a Calgary-headquartered quantum training and consulting company helping businesses, non-profits, and government organizations make informed decisions about emerging disruptive technology by training business leaders and the future quantum workforce on quantum tech and its implications for various industries.

“It’s been fantastic to see the recent investments in the quantum tech ecosystem in Alberta,” said Lisa Lambert, the Chief Executive Officer of QIC. “Alberta is an important quantum hub for Canada, and the addition of CREATE, Quantum Silicon, and Qubo Consulting to QIC’s national community is a meaningful indication of the desire for players from across the value chain to work together to grow this sector and unleash the fulness of Canada’s quantum potential. This collaboration is critical to driving future economic prosperity for Alberta and Canada.”

QIC now represents over 50 quantum technology and allied organizations among its members and affiliates, underscoring the consortium’s pivotal role in uniting and propelling Canada’s quantum industry forward. Quantum sector companies and organizations supporting Canada’s quantum ecosystem are invited to explore the benefits of QIC membership and affiliate opportunities and apply to join the national consortium here.

Quotes:

“The Alberta Collaborative Resources Empowering Advanced Technology Experiences (CREATE) Centre is focused on supporting the building of big, small and intelligent technologies. Through the leveraging of over $125M in open access technical capabilities in materials, micro/nano, quantum and artificial intelligence, and a proven track record of academic and industry engagement and success, the Alberta CREATE Centre is the tip of the economic diversification spear, empowering the creation, acceleration and economic impacts of new technology developments.”

– Eric Flaim, Executive Director, Alberta CREATE Centre

“Qubo Consulting chose to join the QIC community because we are both invested in supporting the growth of Canada’s quantum ecosystem. Qubo helps organizations transition to quantum by training their staff (technical and non-technical backgrounds) on quantum technologies in the context of their industry and specific pain points. By acting as translators between quantum experts and stakeholders (policy makers, end users, future workforce), we are increasing quantum awareness through training and business development.”

– Dr. Katanya Kuntz, CEO & Co-founder, Qubo Consulting Corp.

“QSi welcomes the opportunity that QIC membership gives us to engage with others in the Canadian quantum space. We look forward to learning more about the exciting developments that others are making in the space, and exploring how our fast, energy-efficient quantum enabled devices can contribute to other organizations’ missions. And behind all our device development work sits our unique, best-in-the-world atomically precise manufacturing capability. It is in demand from quantum organizations around the world, helping to overcome intractable manufacturing problems. We look forward to making similar contributions here at home. ”

– Ken Gordon, Founder & CEO, Quantum Silicon Inc.

About CREATE

CREATE (Collaborative Resources for Advanced Technology Experiences) serves academic and industry to enable prototyping, characterizing and building of deep tech solutions. With micro/nano fabrication, materials characterization, AI infrastructure, and machining tools, we work with clients across multiple sectors. Our mission is to empower innovators to build new technologies: big, small, intelligent. Learn more at albertacreate.ca

About Quantum Silicon
At QSi we develop the world’s first practical implementation of field controlled computing. QSi devices compute without transistors by rearranging a fixed collection of electrons. This is practical, very fast, and very energy-efficient. Our atomic-scale, ultra-low-power field controlled computing is based on unique single-atom Silicon Quantum Dots. Our devices are orders of magnitude faster than the best CMOS devices, but fully compatible with them on the same chip.
