The quantum story began with questions. By 1925, after decades of puzzling observations and breakthrough experiments, scientists had uncovered something profound: the rules governing the tiniest pieces of our universe are fundamentally different from the rules we see around us.
Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the national industry-led consortium dedicated to advancing Canada’s quantum technology sector, announced today the addition of three organizations that strengthen crucial links in Canada’s quantum value chain. ACA TMetrix, the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing, and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics bring distinct capabilities that enrich Canada’s quantum landscape and expand QIC’s collaborative reach.
On October 11, 2024, the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) submitted a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, urging the prioritization of quantum technologies during Canada’s G7 Presidency in 2025 which coincides with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
New members and affiliates from across the country highlight breadth and strength of Canada’s quantum value chain Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the national consortium dedicated to advancing the country’s quantum technology sector, is pleased to announce the continued growth of its community. This summer, five new organizations from across the quantum value chain and the country have joined QIC’s community, expanding its membership to over 65 premier organizations that are driving innovation, commercialization, and support across the full spectrum of quantum technologies and the supply chain. The newest QIC members and affiliates include: Equal1: Headquartered in Ireland with offices in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Equal1 is building scalable compact rack-mounted quantum computers, underpinned by its UnityQ processors, the world’s first hybrid quantum-classical computing chip. PINQ²: PINQ², the Quebec Digital and Quantum Innovation Platform, supports companies, SMEs, and start-ups by helping them de-risk their digital transformation while supporting their innovations. Today, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) unveiled groundbreaking quantum-resistant cryptography standards designed to withstand the looming threat of quantum computing — and this development is more than just a technical footnote — it’s a call to action.
The International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) met in person and joined in a panel discussion during Q-Expo in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, hosted by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC), marking a significant milestone for our quantum community and partners.
On May 29, 2024, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Quantum Industry Canada (QIC) and Canada’s National Quantum Strategy Secretariat, initiated and hosted a landmark virtual roundtable, with a cross-section of Canadian Chamber members, to introduce quantum technologies to forward-thinking business leaders nationwide.
