Quantum Industry Canada Statement on the 2025 Federal Election Results

On behalf of the Quantum Industry Canada (QIC) community, CEO Lisa Lambert issued the following statement congratulating Prime Minister Mark Carney — and emphasizing why quantum technologies are central to building Canada’s economic strength, national security, and global leadership:

“On behalf of Quantum Industry Canada, I congratulate the Right Honourable Mark Carney on his election as Prime Minister of Canada.

Quantum technologies represent a generational opportunity to grow Canada’s economy, strengthen national security, and build the industries of the future. Few countries in the world have both the scientific depth and the commercial capability to lead in this space. Canada does — with a vibrant ecosystem of globally competitive companies, world-leading research centres, and the skilled talent needed to scale quantum technologies into real-world impact.

Quantum is a platform technology — much like digital technologies were a generation ago. It will underpin future advances across critical sectors: communications, computing, defence, healthcare, transportation, energy, finance, natural resources, and more. What’s at stake is not just leadership in a single industry, but the ability to shape the very infrastructure that future economies and societies will rely on.

The opportunity is significant. According to a study commissioned by the National Research Council of Canada, the quantum sector has the potential to contribute more than 3% of Canada’s GDP and create over 200,000 high-value jobs by 2045. But the window to lead is narrowing. Countries around the world are investing aggressively to turn early quantum capabilities into strategic and economic advantage. Realizing Canada’s potential will depend on the choices and investments we make today: scaling homegrown companies, securing supply chains, and anchoring quantum deployment here at home.

This is a nation-building opportunity. It is also a strategic one. As our allies move to deploy trusted quantum systems, Canada has the opportunity to lead not only for our own resilience and prosperity, but as a reliable global partner in a more contested world.

The Liberal government’s commitment to rebuild and rearm Canada’s Armed Forces comes at a pivotal moment. Quantum technologies will be essential to future defence, secure communications, and sensing capabilities — but their impact will reach far beyond, powering Canadian innovation, jobs, and economic security for decades to come.

We look forward to working with Prime Minister Carney and his government to ensure that Canada not only keeps pace — but sets the pace — in building the quantum economy.”
