Global Quantum Industry Leaders Respond to G7 Leaders’ Statement on Quantum Technologies

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC, CANADA—For the first time, quantum technologies have been formally recognized as a priority topic at the G7 Leaders’ level — a clear signal of how far this conversation has progressed, and of the growing strategic relevance of quantum across economies, industries, and national security.

The inclusion of quantum at the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis marks an important milestone for the global quantum community. It reflects broadening recognition at the highest level that quantum technologies are no longer solely a research frontier, but are emerging as practical and powerful capabilities with meaningful implications for economic growth, national security, societal benefits, and technological competitiveness.

In the fall of 2024, the ICQIA — representing the leadership of Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC), the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C), Japan’s Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution (Q-STAR) — jointly submitted a letter to Canada’s then Prime Minister urging Canada to prioritize quantum during its 2025 G7 Presidency. This week’s G7 Leaders’ dialogue reflects that call, and fittingly comes during the United Nations’ International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025).

Today, ICQIA leaders are gathered at QUANTUM NOW / ICI QUANTIQUE, hosted in Montréal by Quantum Industry Canada in partnership with Distriq, The Quantum Innovation Zone, and lead market intelligence partner The Quantum Insider. On June 19, ICQIA leaders, together with our partner association UKQuantum, will take the stage together for an executive panel entitled Beyond Borders: G7 Collaboration in the Quantum Economy, highlighting the role of trusted partnerships and international collaboration  in accelerating adoption, ensuring interoperability, and advancing shared interests across the G7 and beyond.

The G7 partners, alongside global allies, have made historic investments in quantum. As quantum moves into commercial deployment, international coordination, interoperability, and trusted partnerships will be essential to building a globally connected quantum economy that reflects shared values and mutual interests.
